One of my family’s favorite traditions, for almost every holiday now, is setting up a themed escape room at home. This Christmas season we created a printable Nativity themed escape room that was not only fun and engaging but also helped everyone learn more about the birth of Jesus Christ in a very unique way. And the best part, it’s perfect for kids, teens and adults!!
Making your own DIY escape room at home can take literally forever! I know by experience. You have to come up with different puzzles, clues, locks, codes etc…then you need to gather all the supplies and set it up. It’s a lot! But with this printable Nativity Escape Room, you and your loved ones can enjoy all the fun without all the headache. All you need are some basic supplies and about 30 minutes to get the entire thing set up!
SUPPLIES:
After you’ve gathered the supplies, start by cutting everything out and placing the puzzles in the envelopes. The printable Nativity Escape Room comes with detailed instructions so you can quickly and easily set it up. Then you’ll put tape on the back so the clues/puzzles can be hung up all around the room.
The Nativity escape room can be played in multiple ways. You can set it up in a room and set a timer. We suggest between 45 minutes to an hour. If you have more than five players, set up two rooms and divide into teams. Have teams race against each other to see who finishes first. Or you can play it like a scavenger hunt and hide all the pieces around the house or a church building. Both ways are lots of fun.
Once it’s all set up, a “gamekeeper” will announce the rules (included with the printables) and give the players their first clue.
The Nativity Escape Room is so much fun for all ages. So it can be done at a Christmas family party, as a youth activity, at home for FHE (family home evening), as a Sunday School lesson, as a primary activity, or for any Christmas get together! To include younger players that can’t read, have them search for the pieces with each clue. You can also have them cut out and glue the pictures on.
In total there are 10 clues and it finishes with a prompt for each player to “light the world” this Christmas season, just as Jesus Christ is the light of the world.
We wish you the Merriest Christmas and hope that through all the madness of the season, that your family can slow down and focus on the Savior.
Much aloha,
Stacey + Niki
